What is Infrared Sauna?

Heat that heals
from within

Unlike traditional saunas that heat the air around you, infrared saunas emit light waves that penetrate directly into your body's tissue — generating heat from within at a cellular level. This means deeper, more effective therapy at a more comfortable temperature.

Available at Next Phase Pilates in Yagoona, our full-spectrum infrared sauna combines near, mid, and far infrared wavelengths — each targeting different aspects of health and recovery. The result is a profoundly restorative experience that no conventional sauna can replicate.

The Science

Full-spectrum therapy

Our infrared sauna uses full-spectrum technology — combining three distinct wavelengths that each target different layers of the body for comprehensive healing.

Unlike a traditional sauna: Infrared heat penetrates 4–5cm into tissue, warming your body directly rather than just the surface skin. You achieve the same (or greater) therapeutic benefits at 40–55°C vs 80–100°C, making it far more comfortable and accessible.

Near Infrared

The shortest wavelength — penetrates the skin's surface to stimulate cell regeneration, promote healing, boost collagen production, and improve skin health and complexion.

Mid Infrared

Penetrates deeper into soft tissue — improving circulation, reducing inflammation, accelerating muscle recovery, and supporting pain relief in joints and muscles.

Far Infrared

The deepest-penetrating wavelength — raising core body temperature for a true cardiovascular response, deep detoxification, and profound stress relief.

The Benefits

Why infrared changes recovery

Accelerated Muscle Recovery

Infrared heat increases blood flow and reduces inflammation in muscle tissue, significantly cutting recovery time after intense pilates sessions.

Deep Detoxification

Infrared-induced sweating is significantly more effective than exercise-induced sweating at eliminating heavy metals and environmental toxins.

Cardiovascular Health

Far infrared heat raises your core temperature in a way that mimics moderate exercise — improving circulation and supporting heart health.

Stress & Cortisol Reduction

The warmth of infrared activates the parasympathetic nervous system — reducing cortisol levels and promoting a deep sense of calm.

Skin Rejuvenation

Near infrared stimulates collagen production, reduces fine lines, and promotes cellular renewal — delivering a visible glow and long-term skin health.

Pain & Inflammation Relief

Mid infrared penetrates joints and soft tissue to reduce chronic pain, improve mobility, and address inflammation from arthritis, back pain, and more.

Contact the Studio
Is infrared sauna safe?
Yes — infrared sauna therapy is widely considered safe for most healthy adults and has been used therapeutically for decades. However, if you are pregnant, have cardiovascular conditions, or take medications, please consult your healthcare provider first. Let us know of any health conditions when booking.
What's the difference between infrared and traditional saunas?
Traditional saunas heat the air around you to very high temperatures (80–100°C), which you then absorb. Infrared saunas use light waves to heat your body directly from within at much lower air temperatures (30–70°C). This means you can stay in longer, breathe more comfortably, and achieve deeper therapeutic benefits with less discomfort.
Should I do sauna before or after pilates?
Most clients find sauna after pilates to be the most effective combination. Using the sauna post-class helps flush out metabolic waste from the muscles, reduces inflammation, and deepens the recovery process while your muscles are already warm and pliable. That said, some people enjoy a pre-session sauna to warm up their tissues — try both and see what works for you.
How often should I use the sauna?
Research suggests that 3–4 sessions per week delivers optimal long-term health benefits. For recovery purposes, using the sauna the same day as or the day after intense training is ideal. Our 3-pack option is designed for this weekly rhythm at a great value price point.
What should I bring to my sauna session?
Bring a large water bottle (hydration is essential), a towel to sit on (or we can provide one), and loose, comfortable clothing or a swimsuit. We recommend avoiding heavy meals for at least an hour before your session. Remove all jewellery and ensure you are well hydrated before entering.

Pre & Post Natal

Safe, gentle heat
for every stage

Infrared sauna can be a deeply supportive wellness tool during and after pregnancy — when used appropriately and with proper guidance. At Next Phase Pilates, we welcome expecting and new mothers and encourage you to speak with your instructor before your session so we can ensure a safe and comfortable experience for you.

Prenatal Considerations

Mild, lower-temperature sessions may support relaxation and circulation during pregnancy. Always consult your healthcare provider or midwife before using infrared sauna during any trimester. We recommend avoiding sessions in the first trimester and always prioritise comfort and hydration.

Postnatal Recovery

Infrared sauna can be a powerful postnatal recovery tool — helping reduce inflammation, ease muscle tension, support hormonal balance, and restore a sense of calm. We recommend waiting at least 6–8 weeks postpartum and receiving clearance from your healthcare provider before your first session.

Lower Temperature Option

For expecting or new mothers, we can run your session at a lower temperature setting (35–42°C) for greater comfort and safety. Please let us know at the time of booking and your instructor will set up the sauna accordingly.

Always Inform Us

Whether you are currently pregnant or recently postnatal, please inform us at the time of booking. Our team will ensure your session is appropriately adjusted — from temperature to session length — so you feel fully supported from the moment you arrive.

Medical disclaimer: Infrared sauna is not recommended for all pregnancies. Please consult your obstetrician, GP, or midwife before attending a session during pregnancy or within the early postnatal period. Always listen to your body and exit the sauna if you feel any discomfort.
